Description
Desirable program from the infamous 1919 Black Sox season.Home Chicago program against the visiting Athletics.
The program is unscored but 5 of the famous 8 black sox are shown in the starting lineup – Buck Weaver, Joe Jackson, Swede Hap Felsch, Chic Gandill and Swede Risberg.
The other 3 are shown among the reserve players – pitchers Eddie Cicotte, Lefty Williams and reserve player Fred McMullin.
The programs is technically in about vg-ex condition but presents much nicer.
There is a ¾ of an inch split at the top of the spine and a ¼
of an inch split at the bottom.
The center score page has come loose from the staples and is also neatly split to the bottom staple.
A small piece of vintage scotch tape has been used to hold the scorepage back to the spine. There is also a tear to the score page near the spine that has also been repaired decades ago with scotch tape that has discolored over the ages.
See scans.
It appears the program once lightly folded vertically but now lays completely flat and the light vertical crease is really only evident to the covers.
Otherwise the program is pretty clean which is rare for these late 1910s white sox programs that were printed on cheap paper and are susceptible to creasing and chipping.
Program shows just some light wear at the corners, light handling wear and I noted one minor chip to top of one of the back pages.
A rare opportunity to acquire a White Sox home program from their most famous year.
